Chan (2019) postulated that the process typically involves vocational assessment, counseling, skills development, job placement assistance, assistive technology provision, workplace accommodations, and ongoing support services. According to Cook (2018) the overarching goal of vocational rehabilitation is to enhance the employability, independence, and integration of individuals with disabilities into the workforce, promoting their economic self-sufficiency, social inclusion, and overall well-being. By addressing physical, cognitive, psychological, and social barriers, vocational rehabilitation aims to maximize individuals’ potential, improve their quality of life, and facilitate their active participation in society.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

In the Jos North Local Government Area, physically disabled individuals aspire to lead fulfilling and independent lives, yet they confront significant challenges in accessing and benefiting from vocational rehabilitation services. The ideal scenario envisions a community where these individuals have unhindered access to comprehensive and effective rehabilitation services that equip them with the skills and support needed to participate actively in the workforce and society at large.

However, the current landscape reveals a stark contrast to this ideal. 1. a) To assess the types of vocational rehabilitation programmes available in special education centres in Jos North Local Government Area.
2. b) To determine the impact of vocational rehabilitation services on the employment rates of physically disabled persons.
3. c) To identify challenges of vocational rehabilitation programmes in special education centres in Jos North.
4. d) To propose recommendations that can enhance the effectiveness of vocational rehabilitation services in Jos North Local Government Area

            The following research questions guided the study:

1. a) What are the types of vocational rehabilitation programs available in special education centres in Jos North Local Government Area?
2. b) What is the impact of vocational rehabilitation services on the employment rates of physically disabled persons?
3. c) What are the challenges faced by vocational rehabilitation programs in special education centres in Jos North?
4. d) What recommendations can be proposed to enhance the effectiveness of vocational rehabilitation services in Jos North Local Government Area?

1.5 Significance of the Study

            The study covers impact of vocational rehabilitation programmes on persons with disabilities. The study is limited to special education centres in Jos North Local Government Area. In contents of this work, the study shall be restricted to the types of vocational rehabilitation programs available in special education centres, the impact of vocational rehabilitation services on the employment rates of physically disabled persons and the challenges faced by vocational rehabilitation programs in special education centres in Jos North. Despite the fact that the study is limited to special education centres in Jos North, its findings can be applicable to other parts of the state and country as a whole.

1,7 Operational Definitions of Terms

            The following terms are operationally defined:

Impact: The measurable effects or outcomes, both positive and negative, resulting from the implementation of vocational rehabilitation programs on persons with disabilities in special education centres. This can include changes in employment rates, skill development, independence, self-esteem, quality of life, and social integration.

Vocational Rehabilitation Programs: Structured interventions or services aimed at assisting individuals with disabilities in acquiring, developing, or improving vocational skills, work-related abilities, and employability. These programs may include vocational training, job placement services, career counseling, assistive technology provision, and support services tailored to the specific needs of individuals with disabilities.

Persons with Disabilities: Individuals who have physical, cognitive, sensory, or mental impairments that substantially limit their ability to engage in major life activities, including vocational activities.
